Happy June! This month’s drawing prompt is trees.
Bring your sketchbook on a walk, to the beach, on a picnic, or on your travels, and draw the trees that catch your eye.
There’s only one rule: you must draw from life, on location.
Below are some of my drawings of trees in my neighborhood and one of my favorite parks.
One tree that caught my eye was an orchid tree. It has bright pink flowers and heart-shaped (and edible!) leaves that look like butterfly wings.

Below are two drawings I made during a picnic at Will Rogers State Historic Park.

Below are some sketches of fruit trees I walked by. In California, you’ll notice lots of citrus and other fruits, such as figs, persimmons, and pomegranates. In my neighborhood, I’ve discovered a white mulberry tree and a fig tree growing along the sidewalk.

All of these sketches were done quickly with an ink pen in a pocket sketchbook.
I can’t wait to see your sketchbook drawings. Feel free to send me photos or reach out with any questions or thoughts.
